Behind The Bottle

Allocated’s first Rare Character pick under the outfit. This is going to be part of an ongoing series with ALCTDxRC.

When it came time to decide on what type of whiskey ALCTD was willing to badge up for the inaugural RC pick, the choice was tough. There was a lot going through the heads of the ALCTD team, but it all came back to the story on how ALCTD was founded. How Ylli and Long looked eyes from across the bar. How a dram of Japanese Whisky became the start of something new (Hey Google, play High School Musical – Start of Something New.)

Japanese whisky has always been a staple dram when the outfit members all link up. The delicate notes of melon complementing that tight ass mizunara oak…me oh my. To pay homage to what started it all, but also paying respects to our Alaskan market, we wanted to select a bourbon that had a Japanese profile. When the seed was planted, Chad (Operations and Single Barrel Manager) from RC sent one sample that said fits the bill. When we heard that only one was sent, the team was extremely skeptical. One sample? Really? The confidence in Chad had Long and Ylli swallowing their words…

The forefront of the dram opens up to a melon note on the palate, while leaving such subtle light tannins on the finish (what mizzy wood is known for). For being an 8 year, it has the snappy greens creeping into the finish, but still sweet. This is one to play with over time, the notes keep evolving.
