We’ll start off by stating the obvious—this is a single barrel from a distillery that rhymes with Millett that was bottled under the Hirsch brand.
As we are always seeking new and exciting things to offer in our market, we also know nothing beats a delicious Kentucky classic. This is where our good friend Kathy K., from Hotaling & Co., comes in. Ylli, Long and Kathy were having a chat about a few new products that potentially should be brought into market, when she mentioned she had some sexy corn samples in her bag...and boy did she deliver.
Different. Different is always what the team is looking for when deciding which barrels get to carry the ALCTD badge. The ideology behind this is—why would we ever try to sell someone a single barrel select when you can get the same profile for less right off the rack? To us, a bespoke pick from the team means it’s different, it hasn’t been done yet, it wows us or it makes us swoon. A true single barrel from Hirsch that wasn’t cuveed or finished in a secondary cask fit that bill to a tee.
Enter Alaska Bourbon Society (ABS). ABS is a Facebook-based group, where in the group page, you’ll find bourbon reviews, hilarious memes, local bourbon finds and just about anything else involving the beloved liquid. Josh H., an admin for ABS, was having a chat with Long and Ylli at the shop about what the group was entertaining for their next pick, when they mentioned to Josh if ABS was interested in doing a Kentucky Straight for their next pick. Back to basics it was and after a few flights between two samples, this delicious pick was born.
