Behind The Bottle

The long-awaited ALCTD Generations #02 is finally in!

The story behind this bottle is a funny one. Those in the know have probably noticed that a certain other toasted Elijah Craig pick already hit the AK market a while ago. Here’s the reality: that one was a "take it or leave it" situation.

Our team doesn’t commit to barrels just to be first to market for a quick buck. ALCTD patrons know they take their selection process a little too seriously for that.

So, what actually happened? When Long heard EC Toasted selects were becoming available nationwide, he immediately called up their Heaven Hill plug. He told them flat-out that they didn't love the generic sample sent to the state, and that they wanted a real barrel pick. They were told EC Toasted wasn't available for on-site selection and that state allocations were incredibly scarce.

But after a little schmoozing, begging, and negotiating, ALCTD got what they wanted. Heaven Hill sent barrel samples directly up to them, and the second chapter of the Generations series was born.

The mission was simple: showcase what a true, toasted single barrel at barrel proof should actually taste like. Luckily, there was a clear winner that perfectly married the soft, pillowy vanilla profile of a toasted barrel with EC’s iconic, deep caramel backbone.

Enjoy this dram slowly- as you can see from the bottle count, the yield is way lower than they wanted it to be.
