The Sweet Wheat
The Sweet Wheat
Sweet wheat defined.
This cask was chosen during the annual 2025 ALCTD Kentucky trip. How in the world did it take this long to finally make it to ALCTD? Blame the chip shortage, the distributors, AI, or whatever else you want- but it’s finally here.
The mission for this pick was simple: define "sweet wheat" in a single bottle.
Ylli and Long debated long and hard before even entertaining another wheated bourbon (that wasn’t Larceny) before sitting down at Wilderness Trail. They both knew that while Larceny might showcase those candy-bar, nutty notes beautifully, Wilderness Trail’s slightly higher wheat mash bill is unmatched when you’re hunting for a true sweet wheat profile.
Shout out to Riley Stallings at Wilderness Trail for his absolute expertise, thieving only the barrels that fit ALCTD’s precise parameters. It only took Riley four tries to find the barrel that Ylli and Long knew, without a doubt, was the one. They were looking for ultimate smoofness and by golly, they found it.
The honest truth about this barrel? The team can confidently say that for those who drink Blanton’s just because it’s "so smoof" and lacks aggressive oak tannins, you could pour this into an empty Blanton's bottle and the brand hunters would be none the wiser.
So. Fking. Smoof.
