BEHIND THE BOTTLE

The Past: The Garden of Eatin' (1951 – 1990s)

The Garden of Eatin’ was one of Anchorage’s most legendary dining establishments. It was founded in 1951 by Hans and Gerry Kirschner, a couple who had originally bought the 25-acre property to start a potato farm. According to local lore, their farming dreams ended when a small plane crashed into their potato patch; after locals trampled the remaining crops to see the wreck, the couple decided hospitality was a safer bet than agriculture.

Housed in a surplus World War II Quonset hut—a distinct architectural feature of early Alaska—the "Garden" became the premier supper club of the territory. In an era when Anchorage was still rough around the edges, it offered a touch of class. For decades, it was considered the "best" restaurant in town, a hub where pipeline deals were struck and families celebrated their biggest milestones.

The Present & Future: Fiori D’Italia (1995 – Today)

The location’s legacy continued when the Ferati family (Ulber and Urime) opened Fiori D’Italia in 1995, moving it into the historic Quonset hut in 1997. They preserved the warm, family-run atmosphere while introducing authentic Italian cuisine to the area.

The Future of the establishment began when their son, Ylli Ferati, took over the bar program. He transformed the restaurant into a world-class whisky destination, amassing one of the largest and most curated selections in the country. Today, Fiori D’Italia is not just a restaurant but a pilgrimage site for whisky lovers and cocktail enthusiasts.

The Spirit: This bottling pays homage and bridges The Past and the Present. It honors the foundation laid by the Garden and celebrates the ongoing innovation of Fiori. It is at hazmat proof so please consume responsibly.
