BEHIND THE BOTTLE
Another one? Damn right another one.
It is really surpirsing to see that some brands in America still cares more about relationships than they do money. Allocated’s biggest partners are indeed Heaven Hill, Michter’s and now Wild Turkey/Russell’s for just that reason. No talks of volume plays and this and that. The people at these brands understand what Allocated’s whiskey ethos is and it’s impressive as ever to see that in action.
This second expression came to be after the ALCTD team picked their first barrel on the trip (BN.26.002). This expression, you’re on the page of now, was indeed the second choice by a trivial margin. Without ousting anyone, Long and Ylli were talking about how they were worried the first barrel would leave the shop doors too quickly and mentioned it’d be nice to have another. Just like that, their wish was granted.
With reading the tasting notes, you’ll find a stark contrast from the first expression of the Reserves Collection, but that was indeed by nature. If the first barrel was to showcase Russell’s at it’s finest, this expression shows the duality of what the juice can do.
Noted in the Behind the Bottle of BN.26.002, there were 5 barrels laid in front of the team. With no stats, with completely different taste profiles. The team’s #1 and #2 ended up being sister barrels. Same fill date. Same rickhouse. Same cooper. Same char level. Same floor. Same dump date. Same- everything.
Never have Allocated ever been able to showcase the drasctic differences of two single barrels that essentially have the exact same stats. Wood biology and microsopic environment swings are a hell of a thing. Mind blowing.
