Behind The Bottle

When it’s good, it’s good.

On ALCTD’s annual Kentucky run, the schedule was stacked. Seven to eight distilleries lined up. Very specific houses, seeking for very specific single barrels with very specific flavor profiles. The mission was dialed in. Dark Arts was not on that list, but life loves a plot twist.

One of the first stops ended up being Dark Arts anyway, as Ylli and Long were heading there to say what’s up to their guy Macaulay Minton, while also helping the state distributor pick a barrel that absolutely slapped. Sure enough, a specific bourbon finished with toasted Mizunara staves stole the show right away.

With the “official business” handled, the vibe shifted. Macaulay, being Macaulay, had 16 Glencairns parked in front of each person, each containing something from the vault of experimental and unique juice. There was even a 12+ year old Buff-Turkey bottle he’s saving for his wedding. Light flex.

The guys sipped through some wild expressions... until one glass basically pulled their pants off. A nose that commanded attention. A palate that was all a jucccy fruit symphony. Immediate pause. What. Is. This.

Ylli looks over to Long. Slow head tilt. Eyes wide. The half-grin that needs no words. Long proceeds to pulls his phone out. Starts crunching numbers like he’s in a hostage negotiation. Thirty silent seconds. “Shit... we gotta do this.”

With zero finished American whiskey products under the ALCTD banner, this one steps into that lane with confidence. A gap filled. A statement made. So read the tasting notes and see for yourself if the apple is worth the bite.
